About
Welcome to Pop’s Closet
Since becoming a father, my identity, priorities, and interests have shifted and as a result I took note of two highlights when it comes to fashion for fathers. 1. Fathers age out of fashion because fashion doesn’t represent them. 2. The result is a lack of evolution in style. Let’s be honest, when you think about what your own dads have in their closet, it might not paint a picture of good taste. In fact, to dress like a dad is often synonymous with poor taste.
Pop’s aims to redefine what it means to dress like dads. Designing accessible streetwise fashion in celebration of fatherhood.
Why launch on 3/28?
I thought for a long time I was just making clothes for myself, filling a gap for a brand that I wish existed already. After so much love and hype from friends/family about the idea, I started thinking I’d like the world to come along with me and share in the process. Just as it was in parenthood, I never felt truly ready to take the leap. Even today, I still feel like it's not perfect and they'll be many mistakes along the way. I knew I had to just pick a date and see what happened. 3/28 was a shower thought date that came to me and has stuck with me ever since as it represents the combined birth dates of the two girls who made me the dad I am today. 3 for Brady, born September 3rd (IX.III). 28 for Calvin, born October 28th (XXVIII)
About the experience thus far:
Since I do not have a design or manufacturing background, everything has been a learning curve. My vision is to use the highest quality, premium garments and add designs that express the whimsy, wonder, pains and joys of fatherhood.
While I’m excited to launch, there are still many things yet to learn about how to improve the process, source materials, create designs, etc. I’ve never wanted this to be a solo project. Pop’s, like fatherhood, is meant to be a passion partnership with the people closest to me. That said, I’m an open notebook. Ideas, questions, inspirations for design, shortcomings of the materials, etc. I want to build it the right way and I know that means with a candid community alongside me.
A quick note on order expectations:
I am currently partnering with customization shops strictly based out of Utah. It’s important to me to keep manufacturing close to home, and eventually entirely in house, to ensure the best quality possible. With that said, I’m using this launch as another phase of research and development meaning orders will take up to 1 month to ship, even though the website checkout process might say otherwise. This is not going to be the expecting for all drops, but I’m asking for patience and understanding with these first few as I learn the efficiencies of this process. Thank you in advance!
To wrap it up:
As a father of 2 incredible girls, I am surrounded by love everyday. Even if no one buys clothes from Pop’s, I know I still have love and support from all around. If you take anything from this message I want it to be this: being a parent is hard, there is no right way to do it, and it is full of failures along the way. If you still have your father, or father figure in your life, reach out to them. Tell them you love them and appreciate all the skills they taught you. All the failures they’ve allowed you to learn from. All the unconditional love they have showered you with for so long. Oh, and if you can, get them some new clothes from Pop’s Closet to help them finally be able to dress like dads should! 💛
